Catha Worthman

Ms. Worthman joined the firm as an associate in 2008 and became a shareholder in 2012. In 2011, she was selected as a “Northern California Rising Star” by Super Lawyers magazine.

Ms. Worthman represents employees and retirees in class actions and individual litigation. She is serving, or has served, as co-counsel in multiple class actions involving workers’ rights and civil rights issues, including unpaid wages, overtime, and unreimbursed business expenses; breach of fiduciary duty under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA); and equal accessibility under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Ms. Worthman also provides advice and training for union and other clients, and she is a frequent writer and speaker in her areas of practice. Among her other activities, she is the Co-Editor of the newsletter for the Employee Benefits Committee of the ABA’s Labor and Employment Section, and a Rewrite and Contributing Author to Sacher et al., Employee Benefits Law (BNA Books). A volunteer supervising attorney with the Legal Aid Society- Employment Law Center’s Workers’ Rights Clinic, Ms. Worthman is also a member of the Program Committee of the American Constitution Society, Bay Area Chapter.

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Worthman clerked for the Honorable William A. Fletcher of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Ms. Worthman worked as an organizer and researcher for the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), as part of the Justice for Janitors and hospital organizing campaigns.

Ms. Worthman is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall), where she was admitted to the Order of the Coif. Through a joint degree program, she earned a Master’s Degree in International and Area Studies, with a focus on Mexican labor and migration issues. Her undergraduate degree, with highest honors, is from the University of California, Berkeley.
